“Where I Die (Safe Spot)”
This series of prints continues the topic of derealization. The unnatural placements of various objects in the room are meant to aid the feeling of discomfort; such as the outlet for the TV being in a very difficult to reach spot on the wall, loud static on the TV and unable to unplug it, a boarded window way too high to see out of, balloons and a twister inspired board game with no one to play with. I also drew inspiration from a not ideal childhood, the inability to form a healthy mind in early developmental years. Next to the bed are subtle objects to suggest the ideas of self harm, crying and self stimulation with a knife and box of tissues. Tally marks on the wall represent the hopelessness I often feel while on my journey to recovery.
In the editions I played around with contrasting colors to “map out” how things could feel, channeling emotions I have attached to certain colors
