My current body of work is an omnium gatherum of print media and installations exploring the ongoing effects of trauma from family dynamics and religion. I am heavily inspired by my upbringing in the deep southern parts of rural Kentucky; the sound of flies swarming over wilted watermelon rinds, NASCAR, organized religion, and the expectation to fulfill the never attainable American dream. Being an artist who doesn’t align with, from my personal experience, rural areas’ idea of normalcy with gender, personal values, and sexuality, I’ve never felt a true connection to my family or most people during my childhood. I explore this concept aesthetically as traditional southern gothic via an overwhelming amount of works in frames depicting the confusion of what I was expected to be yet never stood any real chance of becoming. I discuss topics of lust, confusion, loss, loneliness, and doom through my work.
